The ingestion of dietary fat is associated with increased plasma concentration of estrogen, however although there have been several studies has been difficult to obtain conclusive data to separate the fat intake of other factors that might influence the risk of breast cancer. However, some case-control studies and cohort studies suggests a moderate increase in risk with increasing consumption of dietary fat.

There may be a moderate protective effect of high intake of vegetables, but with regard to the intake of fruits, fiber and meat consumption results are still inconclusive

Alcohol is perhaps the most important risk factor, recent studies show that ethanol consumption could increase the concentration of endogenous estrogen, which is associated with increased risk of this malignancy.
